Paignton is a lovely town in Devon
This area of Devon can be all things for all people. It's a classic
British Seaside area, part of the English Riviera,
Paignton has long sandy beaches, great for building sandcastles, and
plenty of accomodation with hotels and B&B available.
Things to see - Oldway Mansion, Elberry Cove's coastline, Palace theatre
with great shows and a multiplex cinema too,
Explore Winner's Street with it's collection of antique shops that'll
thrill those who love a rummage through shops crammed with exotic items.
Quaywest Waterpark - at Goodrington Beach
Thrill rides include Wild Kamikaze, Screamer, Devil's Ride with it's
65' freefall
Fun rides are Raging Rapids' and 'Surf Lagoon' and these are tube rides!
Speedcoaster rides from the tamest Wet & Wild to scarier Corkscrew
and the Sidewinder.
For smaller kids there's the more sedatre Submarine Adventure and Toontown
Pool.
There are also just normal swimming pools if you fancy just a swim!
With go-karts, amusement rides, bumper boats and crazy golf too.
Paignton Pier - opened in 1879 it's at the middle of Paignton's beach
and is open all year round. It's got a mixture of attractions on it
including amusements, rides and prize bingo.
Paignton Zoo Environmental Park
MP3 tours and animal information to download on their website. There's
a list of feeding
times available so you can work out the best time to go if you're
keen on seeing particular animals.
80 acres of animals and attractions - miniature train ride, a wobbly
jungle bridge in Lemur Wood, indoor and outdoor play areas, keeper talks
Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway
Steam trains alone 7 miles of coastal track -from Paignton along the
spectacular Torbay coast to Churston and to the Dart estuary at Kingswear.
Oldway Mansion
Built c1873, alterations carried out in c1904. Bought in c1946 by Paignton
Council for use as a civic centre. Marble staircase, glasswork, main
hall and c1850 sewing machine. Visit free of charge. Council offices
here, plus use as a wedding venue, and local radio stations are based
here.
Occombe Farm - nature trail, education centre, farm shop and cafe
Cows, sheep, bees, orchard, plus Site of Special Scientific Interest
with important wildlife habitats. An important place for owls, birds
and insects with a varied landscape including native grassland, woodland
and hedgerows.
Kirkham House - English Heritage look after this well-preserved, medieval
stone residence
Seashore Centre at Goodrington is home to the Torbay Coast and Countryside
Trust's marine work, Rockpool Zone with seawater tanks -
Paignton Parish Church: large, mainly 15th Century parish church, with
an elaborate chantry
Skiwest Watersports- offer waterskiing and wakeboarding for the complete
beginner onwards with all safety equipment and wetsuits supplied. With
ringo rides, speedboat trips and boat charter available too.
Boat rides - there are many tours and boat rides available from the
habours. Seeing the coast line by boat is a great way of seeing the
sites.
